Motocross Of Nations MX 1
The first qualifying race of the saturday saw Bobryshev taking the holeshot in the MX1 class and put Russia at the front, but Dungey and Cairoli overtook Bobryshev already in the first lap and the Russian dropped quickly to the eighth position. From then until the chequered flag, the American and the Italian had a dogfight for the lead and it was Dungey who crossed the finish line first with just one-second advantage over Cairoli.
Pourcel started from an initial fifth position, but he passed Bobryshev after three laps and succeeded in giving team France a third result in the first heat of the qualifying sessions. Chad Reed rode fifth behind Bobryshev most of the race, but he managed to pass the Russian and hand Team Australia a fourth final result. Rattray from South Africa completed the top five thanks to his consistent riding.
Gonçalves, who is riding for Portugal, was sixth, Estonian Leok seventh and Bobryshev eighth. The British rider Searle did not have a good start and when he was recuperating some positions, he made a mistake and had to settle down with the ninth position, followed by Barragán from Spain.

Roelants gave a very important fifth place to team Belgium, as well as Italian Lupino, who finished sixth. Austrian Rauchenecker started second in the heat, but he crashed when he was riding fifth and crossed the finish line seventh. Olsen from Denmark was eighth, Spaniard Butrón ended ninth and Irish Edmonds completed the top ten.

After the bad result Australia got in the MX2 qualifying heat, Metcalfe went to the grid knowing that his country qualification for the main event was only depending on his performance. The Australian did not let his team down, and obtained a solid fifth place.
Swanepoel from South Africa was sixth; Dutch Herlings could only be seventh after not starting really well, and Swiss Tonus ended eighth, ahead of Campano from Spain and the Czech rider Michek.

Motocross Of Nations, Race 1 (MX1 & MX2)
The main event of the 65th edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations started with Reed taking the holeshot and dominating the heat until the chequered flag. Roczen finished behind the Australian and he proved once more his incredible talent beating the 450cc machines. American Dungey started third, overtook Bobryshev in lap fourth, but he was surprise by Roczen by the end of the race. Both Searle and Rattray did very consistent races and finished fourth and fifth respectively.
In the middle of the race the heavy rain surprised all the MX1 and MX2 riders and American Baggett could only finish 17th. On the hand, Pourcel had to stop in the pitlane because a stone had hit his goggles, but he went out again and finished eleventh, while his teammate Musquin ended eighth.
The British team finished at the top of the Nations standings thanks to the fourth place of Searle and the ninth position of Wilson.

RACE 2 (OPEN & MX2)
The 68.000 spectators present in Saint Jean d’Angely went crazy when Paulin took the holeshot of the second heat and managed to finish first, ahead of Herlings and Villopoto. Besides, although Musquin was only 20th, France was at the top of the standings after the second heat. Team USA was nine points behind the French because Baggett struggled a lot and was only eleventh.
Roczen did an incredible race and finished fourth, followed by Belgian Strijbos, who brought some hope to his team, as they were third in the standings after the second race, thanks also to the 12th place of Roelants.
Dutch Herlings led the first laps of the race and starred in a dogfight with Paulin and Roczen in order to keep the first position until the end. However, the French crowd helped the home rider to win the race and Herlings finished second. Team Australia was not that fortunate in the second race because Moss could not start due to a mechanical problem in his bike. However, Metcalfe finished seventh, which kept the hopes up for the Australian.
Anderson and Wilson finished 14th and 27th respectively, so the chances for Great Britain to finish on the podium were vanishing after such two results.

The French crowd was desperate to see the gate dropping again and find out if their riders could fulfill their dream to win the Nations at home. However, they were touched once more by bad luck and Pourcel got his back wheel’s Mouse broken and the race was over for him. It was all in Paulin’s hands to finish on the podium and he actually rode really well and helped Team France to be on the second step of the rostrum.
On the other hand, team USA knew that only two good results would guarantee them the overall victory and Villopoto and Dungey did not deceive his country and went 1-2 in the third heat. Rattray finished behind the Americans and South Africa ended sixth in the final Nations Classification.
Reed could not bring another win to the team, but he finish in solid seventh position. His teammate Metcalfe made a mistake when he was riding fourth, but the Australian succeeded in obtaining their maiden podium in the Nations.
In this third heat, Searle did another amazing race and finished fourth, but such result was not enough for the British to finish on the podium, as Anderson could only be 15th and the Brits had two points more than the Australian.

SAINT JEAN D’ANGELY (France), 16 September 2011 – The French track of Saint Jean d’Angely has everything ready to host the much awaited 65th edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations with 36 countries entered. Team USA is the clear favourite to defend the Chamberlain Trophy, but Team France rides home this weekend and they have a very competitive squad to break the six years winning streak of the Americans.
Team Usa - History.
Roger De Coster leads team USA one more year, and this time he has selected Ryan Dungey, Blake Baggett and Ryan Villopoto to sum up one more glory to the 21 victories Team USA has in its records since 1981. Both Dungey and Villopoto have been part of five different winning teams in the Nations, but they have never ridden as teammates, while Baggett is racing the Nations for the first time this year in his short professional racing career. However, the rookie of the team has recently proved his talent in the AMA Lites Championship racing for Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki.
Last time Team USA rode in France was back in 2005 in Ernée, when Ricky Carmichael, Kevin Windham and Ivan Tedesco dominated the Nations, after having missed the victory for four years. In fact, Team USA had not won the FIM Motocross of Nations since 2000, when the event was celebrated in Saint Jean d’Angely, the same track that this year is hosting the 65th edition. That year it was Ricky Carmichael, Travis Pastrana and Ryan Hughes who brought the Chamberlain Trophy to the USA, so it is now time for Dungey, Baggett and Villopoto to see if they can repeat the history in Saint Jean d’Angely.
Team France - 2011.
Team France, who was seventh last year in Thunder Valley, USA, will be represented by Gautier Paulin, Marvin Musquin and Christophe Pourcel, who joined the team at the beginning of this week replacing Frossard due to an injury in his lungs. Last weekend, Paulin rode for the first time in the MX1 class and he dominated it completely, so he has adapted very quickly to the new 450cc machine. Pourcel raced the last part of the FIM Motocross World Championship and he obtained two podium finishes and 3 race wins. 2010 FIM MX2 World Champion Musquin comes back to Europe after his tough first year in the USA, but he comes fully motivated to conquer the Nations in front of his crowd.
Team Belgium - 2011
Last year Team Belgium had a very solid team and they were on the second step of the podium, but for this edition there have been so many injured riders that team manager Joel Smets has had to change his selection several times. Marvin Vandaele was the last incorporation to the team, while Joel Roelants and Kevin Strijbos, who have obtained really good results in the last GP of the season, had already been selected.
Team Italy and Germany - 2011.
Another team touched by injuries is Team Germany, who lost Max Nagl last weekend due to broken scaphoids on his left hand. However, 2011 FIM MX2 World Champion Ken Roczen, who won last year the MX2 overall class in the MXoN, will be joined by Markus Schiffer and Daniel Siegl to try to repeat the 2010 team Germany’s performance in Thundery Valley, USA.
Italy also lost David Philippaerts, one of the strongest riders of the team, after injuring both wrists when training for the Czech GP in the middle of the season. However, team Italy will be headed by the talented and experienced 2011 FIM MX1 World Champion Antonio Cairoli, who will try to improve Italy last year’s fifth place, together with Alessandro Lupino and Davide Guarneri.

GAILDORF (Germany), 4 September 2011 – Gaildorf wrote once more its name in the history of the sport and the 22.000 spectators could witness the crowning of four Champions this weekend. Antonio Cairoli obtained the FIM MX1 World Title, Ken Roczen the FIM MX2 World Title, Romain Febvre became the UEM EMX2 Champion and yesterday Pacal Bal became the FIM Veterans World Cup winner.

Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX1’s Cairoli obtained his fifth FIM World Title this weekend, as well as his 43 Grand Prix victory. The Italian admitted that the track was much better today than yesterday and the fact of having more lines helped him to obtain the overall win, as in both heats the Italian did not start at the front. It has been a very tough season for the Italian, so this third MX1 Title in a row has been a reward for all the hard work done throughout all the 2011.
The second step of the podium was for Honda World Motocross’ Bobryshev, who finished first and eighth in today’s races. Bobryshev had to race with some special protections on his neck in order to protect his back and he also needed some stiches on his head because he hit his head against one of his camper’s posts. However, the Russian dominated the first race without any problem, and although he did a mistake in the second one and got some green fence stuck on his bike, he managed to finish the race seventh.
Kawasaki Racing Team’s Boog obtained his first podium of the season this weekend thanks to his 2-6 result. Lately the French rider has had great starts but he could not keep the race rhythm, but today he took the holeshot in the first race and did also an excellent start in the second one and managed to ride with the front riders until the end.

Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM) Motocross World Champion MX 1 , 2011
CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Searle obtained his second GP victory of the season in Gaildorf this weekend. The British rider made several mistakes in the first heat, but he succeeded in finishing second, while he won the second race with authority. In fact, Searle obtained the fastest lap time in both heats.
Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2’s Roczen was second overall in the Grand Prix of Europe, but he obtained his maiden FIM MX2 World Title in his first year with the Austrian manufacturer in front of his home crowd. The German had several crashes during both races and it was not until Searle passed Herlings in the second race that he became World Champion.
The third step of the podium was for his teammate Herlings, who was a bit disappointed with his result as he was convinced that he was able to win both heats this weekend. The Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2 rider made a mistake when he was leading the first race and he could only finish fifth, whereas in the second race he kept the leadership until the last laps of the race when Searle finally overtook him.

Great atmosphere in MATTERLEY BASIN (Great Britain)
MX1 GP Great Britain
MATTERLEY BASIN (Great Britain), 21 August 2011 – The crowded track of Matterley Basin hosted the 13th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, where Antonio Cairoli and Ken Roczen handed two more victories to KTM.
The second race of MX1 was red flagged, as there was a heavy crash between Billy Mackenzie and Tanel Leok. Both riders were fighting for the sixth position, when Leok landed on Mackenzie’s back wheel. In order to assist the riders in the best possible way, the race direction decided to stop the moto and all the MX1 riders lined up again 30 minutes after the races was stopped. Fortunately, both riders are not seriously injured, Leok has some pain on his back and Mackenzie in his neck and he was still dazed and a bit confused after some hours of the accident.
Pourcel
MX1 GP Great Britain
MX1 Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX1’s obtained his fifth GP victory of the season at a track he defined as one of the best ones of the season. In the first race he had a good start but he made a mistake and had to push again from the 12th position to finally end third. In the second heat he got the holeshot and dominated it from beginning to end. The Italian is now 82 points ahead of Frossard, so his fifth World Title is closer than ever.
CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Pourcel did an incredible first race, riding second most of it and overtaking Frossard by the end of the heat. In the second one, Pourcel started really well but he was too short on a jump and he had a crash, which made him pull out from the race. However, as that race was red flagged, he was able to start again and he crossed the finish line third, which let him be on the second step of the podium.
Monster Energy Yamaha’s Frossard won the Lovemytime holeshot award, as he took the holeshot in the first race. The runner up of the series was leading the heat when he braked too much and stalled the bike at a corner and then his compatriot Pourcel overtook him. Frossard obtained two double second places, but he had to settle down with the third step of the podium just one point behind Cairoli and Pourcel.

MX2 Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2’s Roczen obtained his eighth GP victory of the season and he opened the gap with runner up Herlings up to 43 points. The German admitted that he had a lot of fun at the track this weekend and that he is now looking forward to racing at home in two weeks time and try to obtain his maiden MX2 Title in front of his crowd.
The second position was for home rider Searle, who could not fulfil his goal of winning the GP, but he was very satisfied with his performance this weekend and with this second overall position. The CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit rider had a difficult first race, but he managed to move from an initial 11th position up to the second place. Searle admitted that hearing his crowed cheering for him during the heat helped him to made the moves and in the second race he succeeded in having a good start and crossing the finish line second.
Monster Energy Yamaha’s Gautier was back on the podium this weekend, but he was not 100% satisfied with his riding. In the first heat he had a good start but he made a mistake and several riders overtook him. However, Gautier crossed the finish line fourth. In the second race, the French was riding 15th during the opening lap, but he got a really good rhythm and managed to finish fourth and be on the third step of the podium.

The rain was present during the first races, which made the track more muddy and technical, but in the second heats the sun came up and dried up all the mud.
Antonio Cairoli won the first race, but he missed the overall victory due to a bad start in the second one. The third step of the podium was for Rui Gonçalves, whose last podium was back in 2009 when he was still riding in the MX2 class. Steven Frossard did not have a good weekend and finished eighth overall.
In the MX2 class, Jeffrey Herlings was second and Tommy Searle completed the rostrum. Gautier Paulin got a DNF in the first race due to a mechanical problem, but the fifth position in the second heat gave him the overall 13th position.

MX 1 GP Loket - República Checa
Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1’s Desalle obtained his fourth GP win of the season, his first overall win after he injured his shoulder in the Belgian Championship and his finger later on during a GP. The Belgian has the same GP victories as Cairoli, but he is 48 points behind the Italian leader.
Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX1’s Cairoli obtained the Lovemytime Holeshot Award in the first heat and managed to dominate it until the chequered flag. In the second one, he did not have that good start and had to push really hard from an initial sixth position. By the end of the second heat, Cairoli overtook Pourcel and Nagl and finished fourth, which gave him the final second overall position.
After missing the podium in Lommel due to a mechanical problem in the last lap, Honda World Motocross’ Gonçalves obtained his maiden MX1 podium of his career, finishing third ahead of Leok and Nagl. Gonçalves finished third in both heats and he admitted that he is ready to be back on the podium in the upcoming GP.
Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2’s Roczen obtained his seventh GP win of the season this weekend in Loket thanks to another double victory. Roczen imposed an incredible rhythm in the first race, but in the second one he made a mistake preparing his helmet and all the sweat was getting into his goggles already in the first laps of the heat. The German thought that he was not going to be able to make it, but he crossed the finish line first just one second ahead of Herlings.
The second position was for Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2’s Herlings, who obtained two consistent second positions. Herlings rode really well this weekend, especially during the second heat, but even being faster than his teammate Roczen, he did not find the way to overtake him.
CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Searle was back on the third step of podium in Loket after his 6-3 result. The British rider keeps on struggling with his starts and has to make all his way up to the top positions, as he did this weekend in both races.

Herlings rode right behind Searle during the last laps, but the British managed to keep the second position until the chequered flag. In the second race, Herlings took the lead in the third lap, but he could not stand Roczen’s pressure and had to settle down with the second position and the second step of the podium.
CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Searle obtained a final third position after finishing second and third respectively. Searle admitted that he is still having some difficulties to fight for the holeshot with Roczen, but he was satisfied with his performance in Kegums, as he managed to make very good lap times.
Home rider and local idol Roczen dominated the first race, but he made a mistake in the opening lap of race two and had to push really hard to cross the finish line in the third position. Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2’s Roczen was delighted to see all his German fans cheering for him and he was very satisfied as he could hand the overall victory to all of them.
Monster Energy Yamaha’s Paulin did an incredible start in the second race and managed to keep the lead until the chequered flag. Gautier, who is nine points behind Searle in the point standings, could not take the overall win, as he could only be fourth in the first heat.
Third overall was CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Searle, who missed the overall win for just three points. The British rider was very satisfied with his riding this weekend and he is looking forward to the upcoming GP to improve his third position in the Championship.

MX1 GP ESPAÑA
Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX1’s Cairoli arrived in Spain with a heavy pain in his thumb but he managed to get the overall victory after finishing second in the first heat and dominating the second race from the beginning to the end. Cairoli was the virtual red plate holder during the last lap, but Desalle made a last minute overtake and the Italian remained second in the point standings, just one point behind the Belgian.
Monster Energy Yamaha’s Phillipaerts was very satisfied with his second overall position, as he struggled a lot in the last Grand Prix after his overall victory in Brazil. Third was Bike-it Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha’s Tonus, who overtook Aubin with only two laps to go. The Swiss rider has ridden at the front in the previous Grand Prix, so he might be fighting for the podium tomorrow in the Portuguese track.
GP MX 3 FINLAND
VANTAA (FINLAND), June 11th 2011 - French UFO-Racing team rider Milko Potisek got the win in today’s qualifying race ahead of Pellicari’s Swiss rider Julien Bill on what was a very hot day at the Vantaa-Speedway venue in Finland.
For the entire qualifying race Potisek couldn’t get away from Bill who just spent the whole moto studying where to pass the French rider. The two Honda mounted riders were on the same second for the whole 14 laps to maybe some displease of the Finnish crowd who expect to see wins from their local hero, Antti Pyrhonen. The Finn only managed to start in sixth position recovering afterwards until fourth place after being the second fastest on pre-qualifying.
Third place went to Tom Söderström, the same position he got during time practice. The Swedish rider is definitely showing the experience acquired in the world stage and will be up for the podium tomorrow. KTM rider Marco Maddii was third at the start and had to hold one of the fastest Latvian riders, Lauris Freibergs, right behind him.

Monster Energy Yamaha’s David Philippaerts did not have very good starts in both heats, especially in the second one where he had to start from the 15th position. Red Bull Teka Factory Racing MX1’s Toni Cairoli obtained his first GP victory of the season after his ninth position in Bulgaria. Due to his knee injury, the Italian had not ridden for the last two weeks, but he felt really confortable on his KTM and managed to win both heats. Cairoli expressed his satisfaction for being back again on the top and he is looking forward to repeat such performance in the upcoming Grand Prix in the USA. Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX1’s Max Nagl was second overall, but he admitted that if he had been mentally better during the first heat, he might have obtained the overall victory. The German felt much better on the second moto and took the lead after eight laps. Monster Energy Yamaha’s David Philippaerts was on top of the podium after his 4-3 result. The Italian rode second most of the second moto, and eventually he managed to take the lead over Rui Gonçalves. However, the Italian lost too much energy overtaking the Portuguese and had to settle down with a final third position.

Red Bull Teka Factory Racing MX2’s Jeffrey Herlings obtained his second overall victory at his home soil. In the first race, Herlings had to stand Roczen’s pressure when the German was closing the gap, but Roczen made a mistake and Herlings took the lead until the chequered flag. In the second heat, it was Herlings who crashed at the opening lap, but he recuperated the lead already on the lap two. Second overall was his teammate Ken Roczen after two solid second places. The German confessed that he had changed his training habits and he felt much more tired on the bike. However, Roczen is still the leader of the MX2 class and he is looking forward to win in Glen Helen in two weeks time. CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Tommy Searle completed the third step of the podium after finishing third in both heats. The British rider confessed that it was difficult for him to get good starts on the sand and had to fight really hard to climbed up from the seventh and sixth position. Arnaud Tonus from Bike-it Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha had an excellent weekend in Valkenswaard and he missed the podium only for four points. The Swiss rider showed how much talent he has, by starring in different battles with several riders like Gautier Pauline in race one or Tommy Searle in race two. Tonus has improved two positions in the point standings and he is now fourth behind Tommy Searle.

Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1’s Clement Desalle got the first Grand Prix victory of the season, the sixth in his career. The Belgian was second in the first heat, even having an unfortunate crash during the last lap when he was trying to find some new lines. On the second race, Desalle took the holeshot and led the race until Steve Frossard and later on Jonathan Barragán overtook him. However, the Belgian rider managed to place himself at the front of the pack and kept such position until the chequered flag. Motocross Energy Yamaha rider Steven Frossard had an excellent weekend in Sevlievo, which was his first Grand Prix in the MX1 class. After winning yesterday’s Qualifying race, Frossard did an excellent start in the first race and dominated it from beginning to end. The second start was not that good, but Frossard’s managed to be second right after the opening lap. By the end of the heat, the French rider made some mistakes and he had to settle down with a second overall position being tight in points with Desalle. Third was Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jonathan Barragán, who was back on the podium after a long absence due to the several injuries he suffered last year. The Spanish rider could only finish sixth in the first race, but in the second one he got quite a good start and his solid riding took him into the lead. However, Desalle and Frossard came back really fast from behind and Barragán decided to ride safe in order not to risk the third overall position.

Long term partnership between UEM and Youthstream
FUNCAL,(Portugal) 8 march 2011,Mr. Vincenzo Mazzi, President of the UEM stated: ‘The Management Council welcomed this agreement with a lot of interest because it will help to make way for an economical autonomy. Relations with Youthstream have always been rich of satisfaction. With this contract we are working on giving more value to our cooperation in the interest of riders and Federations.’
Mr. Giuseppe Luongo believes this a very important step for the future of Motocross in Europe and said, ‘80% of all the business linked to the Motocross World Championship is based in Europe and for this reason, as has already happened in many major sports like football and athletics, etc, we have to develop the European Championship and give more value to the European title. ‘Youthstream and UEM are also working together on a project ‘save the young talent’, this programme will support young riders coming from the European Championship to enter in top teams and help them have the right support so that they are able to grow.’
Mr. Luongo continued by saying, ‘We are working on giving more value to the Motocross of European Nations (MXOEN) and from 2012 we would like to see all the National teams participating with their top riders. And on top of that a new ‘European Champions League’ is being created with all the top European riders from the World and European Championships coming together in a unique event to compete for the European Champions title.
